An important step in setting up WordPress (or other blogs for that matter) is to supply a good pinglist which let's different services know when you publish a new post. By default WordPress only seems to include Ping-o-matic, but the more services you have in your ping list the better. Regularly updated blogs rank better, so letting search engines know about your updates is a must-do!
The following list can be copied and pasted in your Settings->Writing section where you have the box for update services.
This is an updated list for 2014 that I found here, done by someone who's put in the hard yards checking which ping services are still valid.
